It was billed as a must-see matchup pitting two defending champions against each other at the peak of their powers, but Thursday’s WPIAL Class 2A title game turned out to be just another mismatch for Neshannock. Arguably the greatest softball dynasty the WPIAL has ever seen, the Lancers raced out to an early lead against Chartiers-Houston and never looked back on their way to a 7-1 victory at PennWest California University’s Lilley Field for their fourth consecutive WPIAL crown.

All year long, fans have clamored for one last showdown between Hempfield and Seneca Valley and their ace pitchers — Riley Miller for the Spartans and Lexie Hames for the Raiders. Two future Division I players who have spent the past four years going head-to-head in one of the WPIAL’s all-time greatest softball rivalries, Miller and Hames saved what may have been their best duel ever for last.

Due to inclement weather, the WPIAL Class 4A, Class 5A and Class 6A softball championship games scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed. Originally scheduled to begin Wednesday afternoon with a trio of contests at PennWest California University’s Lilley Field, all six 2025 WPIAL softball championship games will now take place Thursday across three different sites.
