It’s inevitable that Zach Hare will give up another hit in his baseball career, but considering the dominant streak he’s on now, it might be difficult to argue with someone suggesting otherwise. Hare held another team without a hit Thursday, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 13 to power WPIAL champion Riverside into the PIAA semifinals following a 6-0 win against WPIAL fourth-place finisher Mohawk in a Class 3A quarterfinal at Seneca Valley. “I’m still at a loss for words,” Hare said.

With the flip of a switch Tuesday evening, Pittsburgh officials changed the view on one block of the Manchester neighborhood. At the end of a news conference on Pennsylvania Avenue, Mayor Ed Gainey called for the city’s new LED streetlights to be activated between Chateau and Fulton streets. The new bright lights were a visible contrast to the old high-pressure sodium fixtures in the next block, where not all of them came on at the same time and the view was spotty.

When Pittsburgh Chief of Emergency Medical Services Amera Gilchrist assumed her position in May 2023 her staff included just 14 emergency medical technicians. Today she has 34, and the increase includes 15 Pittsburgh EMS Freedom House EMT Training Academy graduates. The new program started last year, and both cohorts had a 100% completion rate, according to Geoff Webster, a founder of Pittsburgh Futures Collaborative, a nonprofit that has worked with Mayor Ed Gainey’s administration.
