JOLIET – At one point this season, Joliet West‘s record stood at 2-11. That version of the Tigers doesn’t seem to exist anymore. The much-improved version of the team has been on an absolute tear as of late, winning 11 of its last 14 games including a 3-1 win over Romeoville on Monday. “We knew it was going to take some time,” Joliet West coach John Karczewski said.

FRANKFORT – Lincoln-Way East has gotten fairly accustomed to getting a strong effort out of its pitching staff. And it got yet another one on Wednesday in its nonconference matchup with Providence. But it added another piece to that arsenal as well as a potent offense showed up too as the Griffins rolled to a 10-0, five-inning victory.

PLAINFIELD – There was a moment in Tuesday’s game where it looked like Romeoville’s finely crafted eight-run lead might be in jeopardy. And in past seasons, things might have broken down for the Spartans. But this year’s version of the Spartans is built a bit different. Instead of folding after a rough inning they tacked on a pair of insurance runs to fend off Plainfield Central for a 11-7 victory. “We were talking earlier that nothing is given to us,” Romeoville coach Michael Skroch said.

After the first four state champions in 2024 were all benefactors of the IHSA’s multiplier waiver, what had been identified as a problem in previous seasons became a full-blown firestorm. Change was needed to correct a program that was designed to make sure that schools that were struggling to compete wouldn’t also face the IHSA’s 1.65 multiplier making the process even more difficult.

Spent a lot of time with this and there's a lot to unpack. But almost certainly brackets are going to look a lot different in the fall most notably 4A through 6A.

Under new rules from the IHSA, 44 football schools will get the IHSA multiplier for 2025, causing big potential changes in the classes for the playoffs. Who all is affected? Here's @thesouc with more: https://t.co/5BuxGQjqU7
