Scorpions and Midland NM teams earn early season wins in tournament play FARMINGTON – A pair of local and area summer baseball teams got some valuable work done over the weekend in tournament action leading up to the Connie Mack World Series qualifying tournament which will take place at Ricketts Park later this month. The Farmington Scorpions, coached by Albert Boognl, wrapped up play Saturday in the Five Tool New Mexico ABQ Classic with an 11-5 win over the Desert Sox.

Games rescheduled for variety of age groups for both baseball and softball FARMINGTON – Steady rain and less than pristine field conditions caused cancellations of baseball games scheduled across San Juan County this week for the Farmington Amateur Baseball Congress. The 18-and-under summer league, which was set to open play Monday with a pair of games, was forced to postpone all four of its scheduled games this week, which included games slated for Ricketts Park on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Junior QB Rueben Marquez eager to make an impression for Piedra Vista DURANGO – Several high school football teams from across San Juan County lined up for early summer scrimmages last weekend at Fort Lewis College. The Piedra Vista Panthers, coming off a tough season in their newest venture into Class 6A action, competed in a handful of 7-on-7 scrimmage games against teams from Aztec and Bloomfield, as well as teams from as far away as Rio Rancho, Cuba, Hozho Academy and Holbrook, Arizona.
