    Quantum sensors startup QuantX Labs has bagged a $2.7 million deal with the Australian government for optical atomic clocks for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).     Facebook acknowledged in a Senate inquiry yesterday that it is scraping the public photos of Australian users to train its artificial intelligence (AI) models. Facebook’s parent company Meta claims this excludes data from users who have marked their posts as “private”, as well as photos or data from users under the age of 18. Since companies such as Meta aren’t required to tell us what data they use or how they use it, we will have to take their word for it.

    Canva’s billionaire CEO and cofounder Melanie Perkins will kick off the conversations at South by Southwest Sydney (SXSW) next month, sitting down with one of the smartest minds in US venture capital, BOND’s Mary Meeker, to talk about her success. The duo will take the SXSW Sydney stage on Monday, October 14, to discuss Canva’s evolution from an idea to a global phenomenon worth $39 billion private company in just a decade. Meeker is the founder of BOND, and a Canva investor.
