Four incredible individuals—Maggie Hogan, Fritz Rudin, Danielle Wagner, and Everett Wagner—were honored with the Adult Good Samaritan Award for their extraordinary bravery in rescuing a black bear. After tracking a distressed bear with a can stuck on its head for days, the team executed a daring plan to lasso the animal. When the bear became more alert after being partially freed, the team decided to use vegetable oil to remove the can and successfully free it.

This amount is 13,000 pounds more than what was collected last year. Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $20.2 million investment to reduce intimate partner violence across 17 counties, including over $750,000 for Broome County. The funding is for the Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence (STRIVE) initiative. STRIVE brings together county and local public safety, law enforcement and service providers to improve the response to intimate partner violence and victims.
