HONOLULU (Island News) --A community forum was held Saturday at McKinley High School to discuss a senate bill that would expand access to free and reduced-price meals for public school keiki. The bill would raise the income threshold for families to 300 percent above the federal poverty line--or $110,000 a year for a family of four. To qualify for the program, the same family must make less than $46,000 annually.

HILO, Hawaii (Island News)-The manhunt for the suspect involved in a Hilo officer-involved shooting continues Sunday. Christopher Lucrisia, 39, remains on the run after he allegedly shot a Hawaii Police Department officer twice Friday in the parking lot of First Hawaiian Bank near Prince Kuhio Plaza. According to Hawaii Police, Lucrisia was wanted on several warrants from incidents at a Mountain View home beginning on March 10. Lucrisia went to the house and demanded to see his ex-girlfriend.

HILO, Hawaii (Island News) - Two law enforcement agencies are offering rewards of up to $11,000 for information that leads to the capture and arrest of attempted murder suspect Christopher Lucrisia. An island-wide manhunt is underway after Lucrisia, 39, allegedly shot a police officer two times Friday morning at a bank near Prince Kuhio Plaza. He then ran from the scene with a waiting Chevy pickup truck driven by Silas Zion, 23, who was later arrested in Puna.

HONOLULU (Island News) - Longtime radio announcer and the voice of the University of Hawaii sports, Bobby Curran, died Sunday, according to several sources. Curran was inducted into the University of Hawaii's Circle of Honor in 2023 for his work in play-by-play action for football and men's basketball games for over three decades. According to UH Athletics, Curran called over 400 broadcasts in 32 football seasons, the longest announcing streak in the program's history.
