Joshua Sharfstein and Michelle Spencer, respected experts from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, will advise Mayor Brandon M. Scott’s administration as Baltimore continues its nationwide search for a new health commissioner, the mayor announced today. Sharfstein and Spencer will serve as part-time senior advisors on health policy. They will maintain their current positions on the Bloomberg School staff while advising the city.

Baltimore City Public Schools announced today that Jeffrey Shorter has been appointed as the new chief of the city school police. Shorter has had a 28-year career in the Baltimore Police Department, including over a decade in leadership roles. Shorter will lead the 90-member police force responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and school property.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development announced today that 14 projects will share over $8.4 million in grants to help build affordable homes and improve infrastructure in Allegany, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Kent, Talbot, Washington, Worcester and Wicomico counties.
