West Park Historical Society moves into the historic Sherman House, continues mission of preserving Cleveland history.

Last month, a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking was held for renovations and a new addition to the Franciscan Village complex at 3648 Rocky River Drive in Cleveland’s West Park neighborhood. Franciscan Village of Our Lady of Angels currently offers 176 units of affordable housing for seniors aged 62 and up, and with the construction of a new annex, 63 more units are being added.

Part of Greenleaf Floral Co.’s mission is to celebrate the beauty that comes with each season. “Each one is so different. I think that’s the beauty in all of them,” florist Catherine Conway said. Greenleaf Floral Co. opened a flower stand at the West Side Market on Sept. 1 and plans to sell flowers year-round, embracing the four seasons and focusing on sourcing flowers from local growers.

This summer Yellowcake Shop announced their permanent location at 5218 Detroit Ave. on the east side of Gordon Square. Yellowcake, which sells high-quality, sustainable, handmade garments, is owned and operated by Valerie Mayen, a “Project Runway” alum. It was previously housed in 78th Street Studios, and when their lease expired, Mayen decided to use this opportunity to find a permanent home for Yellowcake within the Detroit Shoreway community.

When Gregory Clifford, the chief magistrate of the Cleveland Municipal Court, needs to cash a check or withdraw money from his checking or savings account, he goes to the basement of Cleveland City Hall, where the Greater Cleveland Community Credit Union has its offices. Michael Bowen, who works downtown as a partner with the law firm Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP, does the same. “Honestly, it’s kind of a hidden gem that people just don’t really know about right now,” Bowen said.
