The third Thursday in November used to be a date of note in the oenophile’s diary. Since 1985, it had been decreed as the official release date of Beaujolais Nouveau, an annual cause for celebration of the fruity, purple-tinged debutante.

The term ‘small but mighty’ could have been coined to describe Tasmania, at least in terms of its winemaking prowess. With just over 26,000 square miles of land to its name and a mere 2,000 hectares of vineyard plantings, the state could so easily be overshadowed by the vast Australian mainland to its north. But take a close look at the results from the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) judging in May and it seems that Tasmania’s day in the (albeit cooler-climate) sun has arrived.

Chile, often referred to as ‘the long, thin country,’ boasts a rich tapestry of microclimates and grape varieties, underpinned by a deep-rooted winemaking heritage. My recent travels took me to Sydney's Chinatown where, among the crowds and neon lights, I found out about the history and evolution of Australia's Chinese communities. A lot. Back at my desk now…While I was in Sydney I signed up for a food tour of Chinatown with a company called Local Sauce. Worth it.

Along with more rain than the country really needs, this spring has brought a profusion of excellent cookbooks. And here, later than I’d like in some cases, are just some of the books that are whetting my appetite. https://t.co/LDtdra8xjl

Happy publication day to @edentravels for Cold Kitchen, a travelogue and memoir with recipes. The idea: that the kitchen is a portal “offering opportunities to cook, imagine and create ways to other times, other lives and other territories." A brilliant read, pub @BloomsburyCooks https://t.co/PHFB0Jhki5

Tasting my way around Sydney's Chinatown on a recent trip, I learned a lot about the history and evolution of Australia's Chinese communities – and about the challenges facing Chinatowns in Sydney and beyond. My latest post... https://t.co/nswjDfuyRB
