The Great Bend City Council will be asked at the Monday, June 16 meeting to approve the purchase of a mobile unit that can incinerate illegal narcotics collected by law enforcement, as well as a drug drop box to place in the lobby of the Great Bend Police Department. Police Chief Steve Haulmark is on the agenda seeking approval to purchase a Drug Terminator and a drop box from Elastec for $7,570.

No Kings rallies took place Saturday at locations across the United States, including outside of the courthouses in Barton and Pawnee counties. The Great Bend event in Jack Kilby Square drew an estimated 175 protesters and about a dozen counter-protesters. The rally/protest was sponsored by the Barton County chapters of the League of Women Voters and Women for Kansas. Great Bend Police Department officers were on hand and the event remained peaceful over its 90-minute duration and beyond.

The No Kings - Pro-Democracy Rally/Protest on June 14. 2025, was attended by approximately 175 people in the Barton County Courthouse Square. There were also counter-protesters around the square and a group of about 5 counter-protesters were in the back of the audience at the courthouse square. Foley shared an overview of the first year at Tuesday's BCC Board of Trustees meeting. "There's a lot of excitement and word of mouth," Foley said. Dealerships from Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas are visiting with potential students, she added.
