    Funding for a bus service that costs more than £3,000 per passenger is being cut by a council. The R4 between Uppingham and Peterborough is a public service operated by Central Connect, which carries about a dozen children to and from The King’s School in Peterborough. The council subsidy is £40,000 a year, or more than £3,000 per passenger.

    A dog show, bake off, classic cars and beer tent will be among the attractions at a summer celebration. Rippingale Feast 2025 takes place on the Jubilee Playing Fields on Saturday, July 12, from 11.30am to 4.30pm. The event has plenty of family entertainment, stalls and exhibitions to browse, as well as raffles, food and beer tents. Classic cars, bikes and tractors will be on show and there will be several competitions, including gardening, baking, preserves, flower arranging, photography and art.

Hannah Darby, who runs Cafe Black with Jim Harding, approached St John Ambulance about installing the lifesaving equipment after attending a first aid course.

    A hospital-based blood test service is experiencing higher than normal demand, with an average 240 patients attending daily. The phlebotomy service at Stamford Hospital is available weekdays from 8.30am to 4.30pm, with patients referred there from GP surgeries and from the hospital itself. At the moment, patients take an official blood test request form to the clinic, take a numbered ticket and wait their turn in a queue.

    While I don’t doubt the importance of keeping ‘The Classics’ alive, some ways of achieving this are better than others. Take the Netflix series Kaos, screened last year with Jeff Goldblum as Zeus and Billie Piper as Cassandra. That did a reasonable job of explaining ‘who was who’ up Mount Olympus and the plot was easy to follow, even after a full-on day and a glass of ouzo. Could the same be said about Stamford’s Shoestring Theatre Company’s latest choice of play? Unfortunately not.
