Children received an extra special Easter treat with the unveiling of new play equipment worth about £40,000. The reopening of the children’s facility in Glaston took place on Easter Sunday afternoon, with a ribbon cutting by local children and a toast made by the adults to the site’s future success. This was followed by ‘playtime’ for youngsters, who enjoyed clambering over the new climbing frames and having a go on the swings and seesaw.

A 10-week fitness course is about to start helping people make positive changes to their lives. Following the NHS’s successful Couch to 5k formula, Stamford Striders’ ‘beginners’ course is aimed at people who want to get into running - or return to it - as a way to keep fit and make friends. It is led by a qualified coach and Stamford Striders members, who will help participants build up from short run-walk intervals up to being able to complete a Parkrun distance without stopping.

People wanting to take up a new activity for the summer can try their hand at tennis this month. A free taster day is taking place at Uppingham Community College’s courts, suitable for people aged 13 and over. No previous tennis experience is necessary and free coaching will be available, while rackets can be borrowed on the day.

An unannounced inspection of a hospital’s emergency department has given weight to patients’ concerns. According to their report published on Wednesday (April 16), Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors dropped in on Peterborough City Hospital last summer and found some people waiting more than 12 hours for treatment. They also found staff shortages were having a negative effect on young people’s care in the children’s emergency department.

Drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts have been pulled over by police in an operation using an unmarked lorry. Ninety offences were detected on the Lincolnshire stretch of the A1 during Operation Tramline. Officers use a National Highways lorry cab to give them better visibility into other vehicles and this helped them spot 20 drivers using mobile phones, 25 not wearing seatbelts, and three not in proper control of their vehicles.
