CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A day after Oak View Group awarded naming rights for the American Bank Center to Hilliard Law, some City Council members say they still don’t have the full story. The decision came just hours before council was set to talk about it — and it left some wondering why OVG passed on a higher bid. Attorney Thomas J. Henry offered $20 million — but Oak View Group chose Hilliard Law's $1.3. million dollar a year bid instead. OVG told council it wasn’t about the money.

While drivers headed southbound into Corpus Christi may soon begin using the new structure, northbound travelers will remain on the old bridge — at least for now.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A new COVID-19 variant called “Nimbus” is spreading quickly across the U.S., already accounting for nearly half of all new cases since May. While experts say it doesn’t appear more dangerous than previous strains, people are reporting harsher symptoms — especially sharp, painful sore throats. R“It’s called Nimbus? I work in a nursing home and haven’t even heard of it,” one woman said with a laugh. “We’ve been through COVID before,” said Javier Salinas of Corpus Christi.
