Joining The Hilltop when I came to Howard was always the goal. I wrote about it in my application to the university and applied as freshman applications dropped when I got to campus. However, I was not selected to join the staff. I never imagined a year later I would ascend to managing editor after one semester as a variety reporter. My wildest fantasy included maybe being a section editor my senior year at most.

After an Army helicopter and a commercial plane collided in Washington, D.C. last week, officials say there are no expected survivors. Among the 67 victims on flight 5432 from Wichita, Kansas, to D.C. was a soon-to-be Howard professor, Kiah Duggins. Duggins would have begun work as a professor at the Howard School of Law this fall. On Jan. 30, the day after the crash, Dean Roger A. Fairfax Jr. emailed a statement to the Howard School of Law faculty and staff mourning the loss of Duggins.

Outside of Howard’s College Hall North residence, two victims were robbed at gunpoint, and one was pistol-whipped on Thursday night, according to a police report. The robbery occurred at roughly 10:24 p.m. on Jan. 16, Howard’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) said. Both victims, walking along 2229 Fourth St. NW, were approached by multiple suspects in ski masks, according to the police report.

When Karis Musongole, who played young Elphaba in the movie, arrived on set early one day, Erivo asked if the then 8-year-old actress wanted to see her fly.

When Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted her nomination to run for president at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, her speech wasn’t the only message she delivered on stage.  She wore a navy blue power suit designed by Chloé, a French luxury fashion house. The suit, estimated to cost over $3,000 like Chloé’s other high-end sets, was one of many similar outfits Harris has worn at events across the United States for her presidential campaign.
