Outside of Howard’s College Hall North residence, two victims were robbed at gunpoint, and one was pistol-whipped on Thursday night, according to a police report. The robbery occurred at roughly 10:24 p.m. on Jan. 16, Howard’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) said. Both victims, walking along 2229 Fourth St. NW, were approached by multiple suspects in ski masks, according to the police report.

I remember exactly when it rang. The 8:07 a.m. phone call that startled me awake in Maryland on Election Day eve was from a D.C. number I didn’t know. My gut told me it was the vice president’s office, who had called me in the weeks prior about a story I wanted. But when I answered, it was an NBC News anchor. He wanted me at Howard’s campus, in front of a camera, within the hour.

Commencement Speaker Thasunda Brown Duckett spoke to 2,839 graduating students, the largest graduating class in Howard’s history, on Saturday. The financial services CEO told the class of 2024 to have courage in life after Howard and emphasized the importance of saving money early. The Capital One Arena seated more than 20,000 friends and family members on May 11.

After a glass door in the foyer was broken by an individual who banged on it trying to get inside, Howard’s College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS) graduation ceremony abruptly shut down an hour after starting on Thursday evening. The ceremony ended before graduating students were able to walk the stage and receive their diplomas.

What an incredible three years it’s been at The Hilltop. In my time here, I have been the DMV editor, campus editor and columns editor. For each story and byline, I felt incredible honor and fulfillment. This experience has been a rollercoaster; Never in my life have I worked so hard for such a long time. Jimmie “Jim” Lee Brown, who was an adjunct professor in the School of Communications from 1980 to 1996 and Acting WHMM/WHUT Station Manager from 1996 to 1998, died on Feb. 23 in Burlington, North Carolina, at 83 years old. Brown’s friend and mentee, Terri Hill, said he became a friend, advisor, mentor and teacher to Howard University communications students, who have become professionals in communications working at NBC-TV, ABC-TV, CBS, Fox TV, CNN and more.

Mohamed Samura, a freshman computer information systems major from Fredericksburg, Virginia, has diedafter being struck by a car last week in front of Cook Hall, according to the university. Samura was hit by a faculty member driving a car on Aug. 11 and was admitted to the Howard University Hospital shortly thereafter.

A Howard University faculty member crashed his car into the guardrail of Cook Hall Thursday evening, striking and hospitalizing a student, according to the university. A Metropolitan Police officer present at the scene said the driver crashed into the student and the dormitory wall around 3:50 p.m. on the 2700 block of 6th street NW, sending both the driver and the student to the Howard University Hospital to be treated for their non-life threatening injuries.

Zoe Coker was awoken from a nap when her friend called her to share the news: the Howard University student-run garden had been demolished. Members of the Howard University Halo G.R.E.E.N. Garden returned from spring break to find the roots of peach, fig and apple trees mangled and unearthed. They saw premature radishes piled next to bulldozer tracks and wilting flowers strewn across ripped-up plant beds.
