Rovers confirmed as champions on Monday after receiving walkoverWICKLOW Rovers have been confirmed as Wicklow and District Football League champions after St Anthonys conceded the teams’ league tie, which had been due to take place on Tuesday night. Ironically, Rovers will face St Anthonys on Friday night anyway in the Jim McLaughlin Cup.

Whatever way you twist it, this has been a very fine Christy Ring Cup campaign for Wicklow. They are one of only two Division Three teams in a competition otherwise locked out by Division Two sides, so to be top of the table and unbeaten with one group-stage game to go is an excellent return. Despite missing out on promotion in the National League, Wicklow’s League campaign was good for the most part, but Championship counts more, and they have delivered in this competition – no ifs, no buts.
