BERLIN -- It is "realistic" to believe that the European Central Bank would begin cutting rates in June if favorable conditions hold, the head of the Dutch central bank told Nikkei in an interview. De Nederlandsche Bank President Klaas Knot is also an ECB member known for his hawkish views toward monetary easing. But he has indicated that he is open to a rate cut, given how inflation has alleviated in the eurozone.

BERLIN/BEIJING -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks Tuesday with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as the two sides sought to draw closer through shared interests on the economic and environmental fronts while steering clear of hot-button issues. Li arrived in Berlin for the seventh round of German-Chinese government consultations. The official motto of the summit is "acting sustainably together," intended to highlight climate change as a major element of the talks.
