A woman faces child cruelty charges after video showed her pulling a toddler by a dog leash, among other mistreatment, according to Georgia deputies. The 24-year-old from Alto was the subject of a child cruelty investigation in December after the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office learned “abusive activities” had occurred at a home in Hall County, authorities said in an April 14 news release. The agency contacted the Hall County Sheriff’s Office to investigate further.

Robitussin owes some cold sufferers money as part of a class-action settlement. The cough medicine brand has agreed to pay $4.5 million to resolve claims that it duped consumers by marketing its products as “non-drowsy,” according to the settlement website. A complaint filed in June 2022 said calling those products non-drowsy is “false and misleading,” arguing that Robitussin contains dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant commonly found in over-the-counter medicines.

A Georgia lottery player tried their luck — and walked away with a top prize. Someone hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot, winning a whopping $842,915 in the drawing April 11, the Georgia Lottery said. The winning ticket, sold at a RaceTrac in Kennesaw, matched all five numbers. Officials said the winner had not come forward as of Tuesday, April 15. The winning numbers were 6-15-28-31-41, draw results show. Winners in Georgia have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes, per the Georgia Lottery’s website.

A stroke of luck led to a South Carolina man’s big lottery win — or perhaps it was a “pep talk” that did the trick. “I talked to my ticket,” the Lowcountry resident told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, per an April 14 news release. “I said, ‘Come on, I need a good one.’“He bought the Jumbo Bucks scratcher at a BlueWater Market in Mount Pleasant, a short drive east from Charleston, officials said. Soon after, he scratched the $2 ticket to reveal a $50,000 jackpot prize, officials said.

The Walmart employee accused in a shooting spree that killed two colleagues and injured a third has died, according to officials in Georgia and South Carolina. Dwayne Eduh, 24, fled after the shootings inside the Covington, Georgia, supercenter on Friday, April 11, and later engaged deputies in a standoff in Aiken, South Carolina, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. It ended when local authorities said Eduh killed himself, The State reported.
