HOMEBASE is set to close 13 stores this month it can be revealed. The locations, which include branches in Romford, Broadstairs and Coventry, are due to close in January. Some branches have already launched . Employees at the 13 branches have been notified about the closures. When the DIY chain entered administration in November it had 133 stores in the UK.

WE have begun the year in the grip of bone-chilling Arctic blasts. It could not have come at a worse time for the nearly ten million UK pensioners whose Winter Fuel Payments have just been axed. It also coincides with a rise in energy bills for 26million customers on standard tariffs. Prices went up by 1.2 per cent on January 1, costing households on average an extra £21 a year. It follows a ten per cent hike in October, when bills shot up £149.

FAMILIES are in for a toasty Christmas as several energy providers are set to give away free electricity and gas on December 25. Suppliers including E.ON Next, Scottish Gas and EDF have confirmed that they won’t charge for electricity on Christmas Day this year. Some companies are going even further and giving their customers free energy across multiple days. For instance, E.ON Next waives its charges (including the daily standing charge) from December 24-26, helping to cut the cost of Christmas.
