In August, the Seventh Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) concluded in Vancouver, Canada, with a pledge. A total of 185 countries agreed to protect 30% of land and coastal areas by 2030 (known as the “30 by 30 pledge”). This will be accomplished through a $100 billion “Global Biodiversity Framework Fund” first announced in December 2022 under the auspices of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

SignificanceUse of AI in the production of text through Large Language Models (LLMs) is widespread and growing, with potential applications in journalism, copywriting, academia, and other writing tasks. As such, it is important to understand whether text produced or summarized by LLMs exhibits biases. The studies presented here demonstrate that the LLM ChatGPT-3 reflects human biases for certain types of content in its production.

SignificanceGenetic variants across the genome contribute to complex human diseases and agricultural traits, but interpreting them can be challenging. We propose a genome-wide variant effect prediction approach based on unsupervised DNA language models, achieving state-of-the-art performance in Arabidopsis thaliana, a model organism for plant biology and a source of insight into human diseases.
