Today has been flat-out hot with temperatures into the 90s and heat index values up near 100. This warm, muggy air mass will be a favorable environment for severe weather if storms track through the Midlands. The latest weather model guidance brings storms to the area after sunset through much of the night. Damaging wind gusts will be a potential threat especially in the southern half of the area.

Get ready for some big time heat today!Temperatures will climb to the low and mid 90s this afternoon, and heat index values could reach the low 100s. Confidence is high in the hot weather, but the thunderstorm forecast is much less certain. If storms can develop over or move into the Midlands this afternoon or evening, the could produce damaging wind gusts. However, many models keep these storms to the south so much of the area could end up completely dry today.
