ASHEVILLE, NC. (WLOS) — The Asheville Regional Airport will open its full new North Concourse and new TSA security checkpoint beginning on Wednesday morning. This marks a milestone for the airport in their "AVL Forward" project as the opening of the new concourse completes Phase 1 of their project. ASHEVILLE, NC. (WLOS) — As we enter into a week with unusually hot temperatures in the mountains, there are steps to take to keep yourself and children safe. Doctor Heather Edgley works in the Pediatric ER at Mission Hospital. She said with the heat temperature and the humidity both being high, everyone is at a much bigger risk of heat related injury, especially children. Edgley said that’s because kids are not always able to express thirst or protect themselves from the heat.

Captains Phillip and Sherrie Stokes oversee Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties. They began their journey with the Salvation Army 13 years ago and have been stationed all around the Carolinas.

ASHEVILLE, NC. (WLOS) — The Asheville Police Department (APD) is holding its second Junior Police Academy this week, June 16-20. The academy is open to kids ages 14 to 18 who are currently in high school and have an interest in law enforcement. This year’s academy has 27 students. Captain Jonathan Brown said that they use this week to introduce students to the agency and to the men and women who work inside the building. “We expose them to some of the inner workings of APD,” Brown said.
