Swimmers from across Charles County dove into the pools last weekend for the opening week of Prince-Mont Swim League action seeking to make a splash in their respective events and division meets with goals that are both near and far. On Saturday morning at Belair Bath & Tennis in Bowie, Hawthorne Country Club kicked off its summer season with a 309-282 victory in their Prince-Mont Division A clash.

Overcast, humid conditions throughout the day were still evident late Tuesday evening at Chancellor's Run Regional Park for a Frank Riley American Legion senior doubleheader, but they hardly proved impactful in the outcome as St. Mary's Post 255 swept La Plata, 2-0, 4-1, in that twin bill. To say Post 255 (Stefko) got stellar pitching on Tuesday would be an understatement as neither St. Mary's starter allowed a single run and the only run it surrendered in the nightcap was unearned.

Guests will be permitted to get closer to nature in genuine fashion this Saturday morning and into the early afternoon when the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons hosts its annual Mud Day, when getting downright dirty is viewed as acceptable. Those in attendance will get to slip, slide and wrestle in the mud June 21 in conjunction with the 17th anniversary of International Mud Day, which began in 2009.

in the years since she graduated from North Point High School with three Maryland state girls golf titles under her belt, White Plains native Bailey Davis has continued to excel on the links. Earlier this month she captured the John Shippen Women's Invitational at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield, Mich. Davis, a recent University of Tennessee graduate, prevailed by four strokes over runner-up Anita Uwadia by shooting a 68-76-144 for the two rounds at Plum Hollow.
