A round of thunderstorms is moving through Cumberland and York counties early Friday morning. There will be a break in the storms during the late morning hours, followed by another round after lunchtime. With a bit of daytime heating, those storms could gain a little more strength and have the potential to become isolated severe storms.The main threats include small hail, damaging winds, and some street flooding due to downpours.

The temperature is heating up today, especially in interior Maine, where many folks will reach 90 degrees, particularly with the combination of heat and humidity contributing to a higher heat index. Skies will remain sunny, though they may not appear blue due to wildfire smoke drifting in from 3,000 miles away in Canada, giving the sky an overcast or milky appearance. Along the coastline, there is still an air quality alert in effect until 11 o’clock tonight.
