THAILAND Student organisations at nine universities across Thailand have rallied behind a liberal-leaning political party’s effort to amend a law that practically forbids any open discussion about the country’s royal family, days after a top court blocked the attempt at the reform. Remarks or actions deemed as insulting toward members of the royal family are punishable under Thailand’s Section 112 of the Criminal Code, an offence also known as lèse majesté.

Police said Wednesday they were investigating a bomb attack at the home of a finance newspaper editor. It came just hours after a colleague at the same news outlet received a death threat to his children. The two editors work at Thunhoon, a daily news outlet that covers the financial sector and stock market happenings. Police have yet to name any suspects or their motives. The newspaper management and the Thai Journalists Association condemned the twin attacks as a brazen assault on the press.
