Ben Houk opened the White Rabbit Virtual Reality Arcade in Merle Hay Mall four years ago. His goal was to show Central Iowans the full experience of virtual reality. “We bought all of the goodies so nobody else had to,” said Houk. The arcade offers a large selection of games and equipment, including haptic suits which uses vibrations to allow players to physically feel the game.

NEWTON, Iowa — A nonprofit in Newton is halfway to its fundraising goal for a safe haven baby box to be installed at the community’s hospital. The plan was first presented in 2024 when Jasper County Attorney General Scott Nicholson brought the idea to the Open Arms Foundation of Jasper County, a nonprofit that provides support for children facing crisis or are in the foster care system.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The annual Des Moines Con officially wraps up on Sunday, but attendees can still enjoy a packed schedule of fun. The event is taking place at the Iowa Events Center. Doors opened at 10 a.m. and the event officially wraps up at 5 p.m. This is the fourth annual Des Moines Con hosted by the Minneapolis based company Nerd Street LLC. The founder, Ben Penrod, said this year’s convention has drawn the largest crowd in event history.
