    Nothing says small town goodness like a pancake breakfast. That’s what I couldn’t help but feel this past Sunday, March 16 as my daughter and I traveled home from the 70th Annual Oakdale Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. It was a morning of who’s who, as we were greeted by longtime community member, volunteer and all things hands on, Melinda Owen. Putting her volunteer hat aside for a minute, Owen was also there in support of the club and a home cooked breakfast.

    Some may say it’s the biggest thing to happen to North Third Avenue since the street re-opening and they wouldn’t necessarily be wrong. The buzz which has surrounded Refuge Coffee since its soft opening in mid-January and its ribbon cutting at the start of February has yet to let up. “It feels amazing,” co-owner, Kara McGaffee shared of being open for business. “I think it’s still sinking in for me,” fellow co-owner Kirsten Rodrigues added.

Parents Courtney and David Schmitt, along with the rest of the world are learning the uniqueness and specialty of their second child. Charlotte’s super power is one which is shared with less than 500 other children in the United States.

Now, thanks to the combination of her children’s consignment shop success and some fortuitous timing, owner Courtney Frobe of Poppy’s Place has expanded to offer women’s and maternity clothing. “We are similar to Poppy’s Place the kid side,” the business owner said, “because we still have gently used, good condition clothing (pre-owned).
