The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has screened four aspirants vying for the governorship ticket to contest the Edo off-circle election in 2024. The chairman of the screening committee, Abdulrahman Abubakar, while addressing journalists during the screening in Abuja, yesterday, said academic records, National Youth Service eligibility, membership and voter cards, passport photographs, and other relevant information were scrutinised during the screening.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has condemned the threat reportedly issued by the Minister of Defence (State), Bello Matawalle, against Nigerians who criticise the economic collapse and rising insecurity in the country. The party in a statement made available to Daily Trust yesterday, said it was the fundamental human right of citizens to hold their government to account, as President Bola Tinubu has never done the same as an opposition politician.

Daily Trust reported how 60 members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday sponsored three bills proposing alterations to the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended) to transition from the current Presidential System to the Parliamentary System of government by 2031.

Six Nigerian states have signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank for a 150 million euros facility to assist them open up rural roads and build markets for farm produce. The six states which included Benue, Borno, Taraba, Cross River, Edo and Anambra would get the facility under the Rural Access and Agricultural Markets Projects (RAAMP).

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Wednesday, sealed 15 facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over violations of environmental laws. The Director General of NESREA, Professor Aliyu Jauro, who briefed the media after the enforcement exercise, said the facilities affected failed to abate their environmental infractions after a series of compliance concern notices had been issued to them.
