DANBURY — A Winston-Salem man pleaded guilty in Stokes County Superior Court on May 13 to a lesser charge of second-degree murder in the January 2019 death of 86-year-old Arzell Tuttle. Christian Lane Willard, 26, also pleaded guilty to three additional felony charges in connection with the murder: second degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

DANBURY — Jane Tharp was installed as the newest member of the Danbury Town Council on Wednesday, filling the recently vacated seat of long-time council member Wendi Spraker. Spraker had served 16 years on the Town Council and prior to that served two years on the planning board. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation confirmed Tuesday that a person in the custody of the Stokes County Sheriff's Office was shot by a deputy during a May 2 escape attempt. A SBI spokesperson said the inmate was being transported, tried to escape from the vehicle and was shot once by the detention officer.
