The Stokes News

For over 130 years, The Stokes News and its earlier versions have been the go-to source for news in Stokes County. This publication not only delivers essential news but also connects the community with local businesses through advertising. The Stokes News has its roots in the Danbury Reporter, which was founded by John Pepper in 1872. It also has ties to the King Times, created in 1961 by John T. Wall and William E. Warren, which later combined with The Pilot Mountain News to become The King Times News. Throughout the years, ownership of these newspapers has shifted, culminating in their merger in 2002 to create The Stokes News, which now serves the entire county with comprehensive news coverage in a single publication.

The usual Capitol Hill scene of Congress members intensely debating legislation in a crowded committee room suddenly featured a more-pleasant sight as the camera panned: a large, hard-to-overlook image of Pilot Knob adorning a wall. “I’ve heard people say it’s the most-photographed or painted thing in North Carolina,” U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, who represents Stokes County in Congress, said recently regarding the local landmark.

The long summer break sprawls out, weeks of time to be filled for local children and youth, and in some cases, creating a little anxiety among parents who need to help their young ones use that time at least somewhat constructively. Fear not — public libraries throughout Stokes County have it covered. At least for a couple of hours each week. kAm(:E9 H66<=J AC@8C2>D E92E C2?86 7C@> 92?5D\@?
