Darrell DeMarcus Golden, 31, of Lakeland, awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a U.S. Department of Justice statement released Tuesday.

Published 5:06 pm Monday, March 10, 2025 QUITMAN — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing an aggravated assault in Quitman. On March 4, a 911 call reported a shooting at Preston Place Apartments, a GBI statement said. Two men, ages 18 and 22, were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. The 18-year-old remained hospitalized Monday, while the 22-year-old had been treated and released, the statement said.

Published 5:05 pm Monday, March 10, 2025 QUITMAN — Two Quitman residents — one of them a police officer — were recently arrested on child cruelty charges, authorities said. Deandre Tucker, 33, a Quitman police officer, was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, and his wife, Micayla Tucker, 30, was charged with cruelty to children in the second degree, a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Council voted to approve the firm Paylocity to provide for the city’s digital HR needs. Jennie Boyer, Valdosta’s director of human resources, said there were a number of problems with the current vendor, including customer support.
