In the wake of a call for his resignation, John MacGovern, the chair of the Windsor County Republican Committee, has been reflecting on the future of the Vermont Republican Party, the influence of Trump on local town politics, and the standing of pre-Trump conservatism in the country today. The request for MacGovern’s resignation, delivered by vice chair Dr. August Murray on Nov. 24 and later released publically, came less than 40 days after both men were elected.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, Barnard Academy’s Robotics Club — the BARC Bots — sent two teams made up of second, third and fourth graders to the Southern Qualifying Robotics Competition of FIRST Lego League’s Challenge division at Rutland High School. The competition is open to students aged 9-14 across the country.

Woodstock’s Loren Fisher has photographed presidents, popes, musicians and Olympians, but despite his many adventures as a photojournalist and artistic photographer, he says he gets the most satisfaction from the quiet pursuit of capturing landscape in Vermont. His latest book, “Vermont Barns & Covered Bridges,” epitomizes that journey. Fisher’s interest in the camera was first piqued in a high school photography class in his hometown in northern Indiana (population less than 300).

After 34 years of coaching at various levels of school, 24 of which were spent as Woodstock’s girls soccer coach, Greg LaBella is retiring. As he reflects on the teams he has led, he hopes to leave a legacy of unity and resilience that the next coach can carry into the future. In the mid-1980s, LaBella was a physical education teacher at several elementary schools. During his weekly travels, he would pass the high school and see the teams practicing.
