    ABINGDON, Va. — Fall season has arrived in full force on the East Coast. But this year in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the season will look differently for dozens of communities across the nation. The famous Virginia Creeper Trail is one of them. The Creeper Trail, located in Southwestern Virginia, is a 34-mile rail trail stretching from Abingdon to Whitetop. Every fall, thousands of visitors eager to view the fall foliage visit the site.

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Recent wildfires in the U.S., incoming smoke plumes from Canada, and East Tennessee's expanding drought monitor all have people wondering when the rain was finally going to come back. Abnormally dry conditions began at the beginning of May and have been growing throughout the Northern-Central Valley since then. As the winter and early spring of 2023 progressed, East Tennessee stayed warm and wet.

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Nearing June, people discuss the beginning of summer because of warming temperatures and the end of the school year. But, one big determinant of summer’s arrival is the start of Atlantic hurricane season on June 1. The full season lasts until Nov. 30. NOAA forecasters say that this year has a 40% chance of being near-normal, with a 30% chance of being above or below normal activity.
