When Penn Yan got down at halftime of their state championship game, they didn’t need to lift a finger to turn the contest around. They needed a Fingar to lift them. Teagan Fingar scored or assisted seven of nine Mustang goals after halftime to fuel a second half rally that ended with an 11-8 Class D state championship win over Chenango Forks Saturday afternoon at Hobart and William Smith College. And most fans watching had no idea how much he overcame to push Penn Yan over the line.

They were on the short end of a 12-9 Class B final this year, but Garden City led 5-4 at the half. Victor won the second half 8-4, including three goals from Morgan Livingston who finished with a team high four.

Only one player scored goals in the second and third quarters of the Class A girls lacrosse state championship. That player was Penfield’s Avery Fordham. That fact is both a testament to Fordham’s day on offense and what the Patriots did on defense, suffocating Suffern 9-3 to win the program’s first ever state title Saturday afternoon at SUNY Cortland. Suffern went exactly three full quarters without scoring a goal-36 minutes.
