(FOX Carolina) - North Carolina Medicaid will cover the cost of over-the-counter oral contraceptives starting on Thursday, according to a release from the office of Governor Roy Cooper. The contraceptive, Opill, will be available through local and retail pharmacies without the need for a prescription for all North Carolina Medicaid beneficiaries. According to the Governor’s office, Opill is the first over-the-counter oral contraceptive approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
