Scruggs propelled Team USA to victory in the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s team foil tournament on Thursday, holding off Italy’s three-time Olympian Arianna Errigo to give the United States its first-ever team gold medal in fencing.

    Lauren S. Scruggs ’25 will be the first Harvard Olympian at the 2024 Paris Games to win a medal after she defeated Canadian 12th-seed Eleanor Harvey in the semifinal bout of the women’s individual foil tournament on Sunday. Scruggs, a Queens, New York native, punched her ticket to the gold medal bout with a win 15-8 over Harvey, a three-time Olympian. Scruggs dominated from the start of the bout, jumping out to a 4-0, before Harvey managed to draw even at 5-5.
