For the 20th year, The Millington Star is awarding Athlete of the Year to the best female and male multi-sports student/athlete in the coverage area among Millington Central High School, Brighton High School, Munford High School and Tipton-Rosemark Academy. To qualify as a candidate, selected by the staff of The Star, a student/athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior competing in two or more TSSAA sports.

Star Staff ReportsRecently allegations have been made of inappropriate conduct from a Millington Lady Trojans Basketball coach. Officials at Millington Municipal Schools have informed parents in the district and released an official statement regarding the matter. “We are aware of allegations regarding one of the girl’s basketball coaches. In accordance with District Policy 5.202, the employee was placed on leave without pay, effective April 8, 2025.

Starting about 3 p.m. that afternoon, the ideal conditions for a tornadic breakout started to unravel throughout the Mid-South hitting parts of the Missouri Bootheel , Tennessee, Mississippi and especially Arkansas. The powerful storms producing severe thunderstorms, winds and tornados continued into the early hours of the morning of April 3 leading to deaths in the Volunteer State.

By Thomas Sellers Jr.Jimmy Carter might go down as the greatest U.S. president if you account for what a man does once he leaves the Oval Office. A part of Carter’s legacy will be that he was a one-term president. He was the man in charge of the country and the free world from January 1977 to January 1981. As the Year 2024 closed out, Carter passed away at the age of 100. For The Best Sellers’ List, here is my tribute to the late president that ran back in March 2023.

The Dragons (10-1) suffered their only defeat of the regular season in a thriller at rival Houston 17-13. Collierville entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from Region 8-6A and drew the No. 3 seeded Region 7-6A Hawks.

Dagen beat challenger Cary Vaughn with more than 2,000 votes after the first of two percents reported in by 9:30 p.m. Multiple aldermen and school board positions were on the line as well. In other races, Millington School Board Members will be Barbara Gray, Theresa Cook, Chris Denson and Barbara Halliburton. Elected to the Board of Aldermen were Thomas McGhee, Mike Caruthers and Don Lowry.

The William Osteen Gymnasium will be the setting that night to recognize the accomplishments of the 1994 Trojan Wrestling Team for reaching State in Duals and Individuals. Also joining the Hall of Fame will be Trojan Track Coach George Gibson.

The Dragons (9-0, 6-0 in Region 8-6A) used a solid defense to overwhelm the Tigers for the win.
