    BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas educators and librarians are working to combat "summer slide," the learning loss of academic skills that occurs during summer break, as students begin their vacation from school. The phenomenon affects more than half of U.S. students who experience learning losses year after year, specifically in math and reading, according to a 2020 study by the American Educational Research Association. The problem has been amplified by the pandemic.
