ORANGE, Texas — Practice began Monday for professional bass anglers competing in the MAXAM Tire Bassmaster Elite at Sabine River tournament scheduled for May 15-18 in Orange, Texas, according to a news release. Daily takeoffs will start at 6:30 a.m. from the City of Orange Boat Ramp at 408 Pier Road, with weigh-ins at the same location at 2:30 p.m., the release states. Contestants will go out in flights with staggered check-in times to ensure equal fishing time for all participants.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The former Beaumont Independent School District electrical contractor who defrauded the district of $1.2 million more than a dozen years is set to appear in court Tuesday were a judge may revoke his probation. Calvin Gary Walker, of Beaumont, is set to appear before Judge John Stevens in Jefferson County's Criminal District Court on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 1 p.m. for a hearing on a motion to revoke his probation.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 30-year-old Beaumont man has been arrested and charged with murder after a shooting early Tuesday morning that left one man dead,  Travon Alexander, 30, of Beaumont, was taken into custody after police say he shot Joel Jenkins, 33, following a fight during a game of dominoes. The fatal shooting happened at about 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, at a home in the 1400 block of Prairie Ave, according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

JASPER, Texas — Staff and students in the Jasper Independent School District are grieving the death of a longtime teacher and coach who died over the weekend. Raymanda Hafford Rigsby, 42, died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, according to a notice on the Coleman's Mortuary website. Rigsby was a junior high teacher and coach who served the district for more than 18 years, according to a statement sent to students by superintendent John Seybold.
