We experimentally investigate the Rydberg-state excitation (RSE) process induced by a strong near-infrared (NIR) laser field for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) molecules which are initially excited in the Ã2B2 state by a UV laser field. Both the neutral parent NO2 and the fragments are observed to survive the strong laser field in high Rydberg states.

Abstract We experimentally investigate the Rydberg state excitation (RSE) process of H2 molecules induced by a strong laser field in the tunneling ionization region. Both neutral parent molecules H2 and fragment atoms H are observed to survive the strong 800-nm femtosecond laser fields in high Rydberg states; however, their behaviors are quite different upon varying the laser intensity and laser ellipticity.
