    NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A new investment from Charleston Southern University is taking student flight skills to new heights. The private university now has its own flight school at Summerville Airport. It’s an expansion of Charleston Southern’s Aeronautics program, which comes after the school bought what was Chucktown Flight Training LLC. The private university’s aeronautics program all started in 2021 and it partnered with Chucktown Flight Training for it.

    JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) - The making of a new multi-use path along portions of Riverland Drive on James Island as part of an effort to create more connectivity for walkers and cyclists is nearly done. County officials recently completed a new five-foot-wide sidewalk along Riverland Drive. The new multi-use path runs about 300 feet down Riverland Drive to meet the existing sidewalk from Crape Myrtle Drive to Camp Road.

(WCSC) - Groups with the state education association and a Lowcountry teacher organization are gearing up for Teacher Appreciation Week and the first official “Teacherfest.”This year will be the first official Teacherfest for the organization “The Teacher Care Club” because Sara Toppe, a fourth grade teacher at Angel Oak Elementary School, started efforts on social media to create a teacher wellness community back in 2023.

(WRDW/WAGT) - In less than a week, travelers will need a Real ID-compliant license or another acceptable form of identification at security checkpoints, including at Augusta Regional Airport. The Real ID deadline is May 7. Travelers flying domestically or who are planning to visit federal buildings or military bases will need to be up-to-date on the new identification standard.

    HUGER, S.C. (WCSC/AP) - Vice President JD Vance will speak at a Huger manufacturing plant Thursday to highlight the Trump Administration’s first 100 days. Vance will tour Nucor Steel Berkeley sometime Thursday. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin is expected to join the vice president. Vance and Zeldin are expected to speak about America’s “manufacturing renaissance” during the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, the White House says.
