Students who work on-campus and off campus in Seattle will soon see a new pay increase in 2025, as the city is raising the minimum wage from $19.97 to $20.76 for all employees. Tips and employee medical benefits will no longer count toward the $2.72 minimum compensation requirement for small businesses with 500 or fewer employees. This wage increase, following the implementation of Seattle’s Minimum Wage Ordinance marks the city’s 10th consecutive annual raise.

The ASUW Senate elected first-year student senator Ven Lala into the HUB Board of Representatives and first-year student senator Simon Thompson into the Personnel Committee during the meeting Nov. 14. Additionally, the senate passed a resolution requesting that UW implement a 3-credit sustainability credit requirement for all new undergraduates. Lala was elected to the HUB Board of Representatives for the 2024-2025 school year. She ran against senator Grace Braidish and senator Bhaumik Mehta.

As UW students gear up for fall quarter midterms, study spaces on campus are in high demand. According to a 2016 count by UW Libraries’ assessment and planning team, roughly 5,600 seats and 52 reservable rooms with 391 seats, as well as some reservable Zoom rooms, booths, and collaborative group spaces, are available across UW Seattle’s 13 libraries.
