    MUSCLE SHOALS — University of Alabama All-American basketball star Mark Sears has signed a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. Though he went undrafted in this week’s NBA Draft, the guard now gets his chance with the Bucks. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported news of the two-way deal. A two-way deal allows players to split time between the NBA club and its G League team, the Wisconsin Herd.

    TUSCUMBIA – The 47th annual Helen Keller Festival kicks off Thursday with a parade in downtown Tuscumbia and a party on Main Street. The city’s biggest event runs through Sunday at Spring Park in Tuscumbia. The parade steps off at 6 p.m. Thursday. Keller, who lost her sight and hearing after an illness as a toddler, was born in Tuscumbia on June 27, 1880. Her life of determination and advocacy for the deaf and blind led to numerous accolades and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The couple have started a new chapter together as freshmen at Northwest Shoals Community College, determined to earn their associate of science degrees. Their story began decades ago when Liston first attended Northwest Alabama State Junior College in Phil Campbell in 1968. Back then, he was studying drafting, balancing night shifts at work with early morning classes.

    AUBURN – University of North Alabama golfer Xing Luo finished tied for 43rd at the NCAA Regionals in Auburn. Luo is the first North Alabama golfer to make the Division I NCAA Regionals in program history. On the final day of the three-day tournament, Luo, a junior, finished with a two-over-par 74. He ended the tournament with a score of nine-over 225, rising nine spots from 52nd on the final day. Only 13 of the 78 golfers who recorded a round for the tournament finished under par.
