MADISON — A section of Slaughter Road will be closed Thursday night for water main installation, Huntsville Utilities announced. Beginning 9 p.m. Thursday, Huntsville Utilities Water Operations will close Slaughter Road between Old Madison Pike and Madison Boulevard/Alabama 20 for the project. Motorists should avoid this area and use Shelton Road and Governors West during the project, which is expected to last until 5 a.m.

MADISON – Margi Daly, a resident of Madison for 21 years, has announced her candidacy for mayor. In a news release, Daly said her platform emphasizes the implementation of transparency, fiscal responsibility, proactive infrastructure development and a community-centric City Hall. The founder of MCWatchdogs, Daly said she is dedicated educating the community about the “potential for authoritarianism within the city manager’s role,” the release said. Qualifying for Madison city offices is June 10-24.

A former pool contractor has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after defrauding customers for more than $600,000, Attorney General Steve Marshall announced today. Gregory Kirk of Muscle Shoals pleaded guilty in a case involving multiple property crimes, according to a statement from Marshall. Pursuant to a plea agreement with the state, Madison County Circuit Judge Ruth Ann Hall sentenced Kirk to a total term of 20 years’ imprisonment.
