    It was a full house on Wednesday at Newport’s Stag Inn, as the community gathered to discuss an important issue on many Islanders’ minds right now: the Newport-Cowes road arrangements. The meeting, chaired by newly-elected Cowes Town Mayor, Cllr Stuart Ellis, Cowes councillor, Alison Carter, and landlord of The Stag, Matthew Westwood, was held to organise a formal response taking the form of a group letter to decision-makers, including the IW Council, Island Roads, and Captiva Housing.

    A walk along Ryde beach turned into an impromptu litter-pick recently for Island-resident, Helen Williams, thanks to one clever and determined dog. Holly, an eleven-year-old rescue Springador, had been enjoying a run on the sands west of Ryde Pier when her owner, Helen, spotted a plastic cup drifting in the shallows. Not wanting to get her leather sandals wet, she asked Holly to retrieve it instead. Holly didn’t hesitate; she recovered the cup and happily traded it for a biscuit.

    For more than 11 years, Ventnor Town Council has provided a youth provision in Ventnor, offering activities and enrichment for young people aged 9-16. Through providing opportunities and the support of trained staff, Ventnor Youth Club strives to promote the well-being and inclusion of children within the community, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

    For more than a decade, Newport Youth Café has been a vital space for young people in the community, providing a welcoming drop-in environment where they can relax, have fun, and seek support when needed. Operated by Revive Newport, a church-based charity dedicated to outreach, the café focuses on helping young people who may be struggling  with life’s challenges. The café has been actively engaging with local youth since 2009.

    Since forming in 2019, the Brading Community Partnership (BCP) has been at the heart of youth support in Brading, initially stepping in to save the local youth club from closure. Over the years, the charity has expanded its services significantly, now operating from the Brading Youth & Community Centre and its nearby meadow.
