    Former Reading chairman Roger Smee has said that his attempt to buy the club has been rejected. In a statement he said he was disappointed at how news of his efforts to buy the League One club had been leaked to the media. Smee became chairman of Reading in July of 1983 and during that time helped the club to reach Wembley for the first time, as well as achieving promotions from the fourth and third division.

    Heading into November 2023, Reading had lost their five most recent games and were bottom of League One on a miserly six points. Twelve months on and they have won three of their four most recent games and sit ninth in League One on a more promising 22 points, one point off the play-off places. Performances have ranged between high quality - the wins against Burton, Huddersfield, Charlton and Wigan - to the dismal, with defeats at Stockport, Bolton, and Rotherham.

He is leading a consortium of potential investors, under the banner of Chiron Sports Group. Couhig is already exploring every possible way to save money at Reading FC. He has a reputation for forensic accountancy, and will certainly not be making any rash business decisions.

It was a cry for help and a last resort. There's a helplessness and anger amongst fans, and this was their way of drawing attention to the plight. Now it is over to the English Football League and Dai. The EFL needs to show some common sense when its panel meets to discuss punishments.
