Aim The term ‘megafire’ is increasingly used to describe large fires worldwide. We proposed a size-based definition of megafire—fires exceeding 10,000 ha arising from single or multiple related ignition events. A recent perspective in Global Ecology and Biogeography argues against a size-based definition of megafire and suggest that the term is too emotive for scientific use. We highlight that many scientific terms originate from common terms.

February 18, 2025 Villanova baseball opened the 2025 season at the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge in Ponce, Puerto Rico, facing some of the best teams in the nation during the unique event.  The Challenge brought together eight NCAA Division I teams and included a celebration of the rich heritage of Puerto Rico. From Feb. 14 to Feb. 16, the Wildcats battled No. 2 Virginia, Rice and Michigan, coming away with a 1-2 record after the weekend.

Villanova baseball is looking to build upon its 18-33 mark from the 2024 season as it welcomes 18 new players to this year’s roster.  In 2024, Wildcats posted an 8-13 record in Big East play, finishing fifth in Big East standings. In addition to 20 returning players, head coach Kevin Mulvey’s team consists of five transfers and 13 freshmen.
