May 10-The Heritage boys soccer team secured its first state tournament berth in program history with a 1-0 win Saturday over Gig Harbor in the 3A bi-district playoffs in Gig Harbor. The Timberwolves broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 70th minute, and the defense did the rest at Heritage notched its sixth consecutive shutout. Heritage, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, will face top-seeded Silas of Tacoma in the bi-district semifinal match on Tuesday.

May 10-The dancing started early for the Union boys soccer team on Saturday. "You know, kids are funny," Union coach Jason Moore said. "I heard them say 'Now we can go and enjoy prom!' Like they weren't going to anyway."It will certainly be a happier prom for the Titans after they clinched a berth to the state playoffs with a 2-0 win Saturday over Sumner in the 4A bi-district playoffs. It's not hard to understand why the Titans were relieved to win.

May 10-It was senior day at the 3A girls tennis district tournament. All three district champions were seniors, and all three seniors took very different paths to the titles on Saturday. Elsa Bice is a soccer player by trade. She plans on playing for Clark College next year. But freshman year, she decided to give tennis a try. "I registered the day of tryouts, and I thought 'Oh well, I'll just try out for C team,' " Bice said.
