STURGIS – More than 100 fifth-grade students from Sturgis Williams Middle School were recognized Monday during a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) graduation ceremony held in the school’s gymnasium. The event celebrated the students’ completion of the program designed to promote responsible decision-making and a drug-free lifestyle. Officer Matt Jacobs, the DARE instructor, served as the keynote speaker. He commended the students for their dedication and engagement throughout the program.

STURGIS — Six candidates running for the Meade School Board shared their goals, recently answered audience questions, and made their case for why they deserve your vote during a public forum held ahead of the Tuesday, June 3 election at the Ersking Building. Three seats are open for three-year terms, while candidate Thomas Schneller is running unopposed for a one-year term. The forum was moderated by Francie Ruebel-Alberts and sponsored by the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce.

STURGIS — Sturgis Mayor Kevin Forrester signed an official proclamation Wednesday declaring May 23rd as “Poppy Day” during a meeting of the Sturgis American Legion Auxiliary at the Veterans Club. The proclamation recognizes the red poppy as a symbol of the sacrifices made by military personnel in service to the United States. The American Legion Auxiliary annually distributes the memorial flower to honor those who served and to remind Americans of the cost of freedom.

STURGIS – The Sturgis Post 33 Titans opened their 2025 Legion baseball season with a tough 12-0 loss to the Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats, Wednesday at Strong Field. Post 22 wasted no time jumping out to a commanding six-run lead in the top of the first inning. Aidan Wood, a “super senior” for the Titans, started on the mound, throwing 43 pitches and giving up four hits and six runs. Brody Royer came on in relief and tossed 36 pitches, followed by Elijah Stroud with 34 pitches.
