Around 9 am this Monday, the 27 and H Road intersection was closed due to yet another vehicle versus pedestrian car crash resulting in serious injury to the pedestrian. OLATHE, Colo. (KREX) — In the small town of Olathe between Delta and Montrose, a middle school gym holds a virtual competition with teams from around the state. Kyle and Colby Mccracken are brothers on the team with similar goals – perform even better than last year. Assistant archery coach Jody Baugh tells WesternSlopeNow this team has made it to national championship for 10 years in a row and is gearing up to make that 11.

However, that wasn’t the only plume of smoke to be worried about – two separate fires only about a mile apart were threatening structures and houses.

MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — On Monday, Feb. 24, the Black Canyon National Parks Service sent out a press release stating a person has been missing since Feb. 13. 31-year-old Jordan Marsters is a Denver resident who traveled through Grand Junction on the Feb. 11 and into Montrose the next day. He was last accounted for at 7:20 in the morning on the 13th at the national park. There are two separate sides to this park – the North Rim and the South Rim.

CEDAREDGE, Colo. (KREX) — For every October since 1977, Applefest floods the streets of Cedaredge with over 20,000 people and hundreds of vendors. However, a document making its way through Town Hall proposed a 30% increase to all vendors and even warned of the possibility of shutting down the long-time tradition if more funds weren’t brought in. Some local store owners thought this increase was too much, like Starr’s Guitars Owner David Starr.

Sean Pond was appointed by the Vacancy Committee for a two-year term and sworn in as commissioner early this week. Pond lives in the small town of Nucla and is best known for being the founder of “Halt the Dolores,” which aims to fight the proposed monument.

GLADE PARK, Colo. (KREX) — The Coates Creek Schoolhouse was built 106 years ago in 1919 and moved to Glade Park in 1926. The one-room log building served students grades 1 through 12 for several decades until the ’60s. Susie Roehm has lived in Glade Park for 42 years. She tells WesternSlopeNow District 51 bought the school in the 1950s and gave it to Glade Park locals to both use and maintain after classes stopped. Since then, locals have redone ceiling beams and patched up walls.
